You Blog ah??

Chinese New Year gathering at a good friend's place. Yes it is that usual get together of old friends... of familiar faces and definitely some new faces...

After dinner, over a drink or two... all the newbies will try to mingle and blend in with the rest who look real snug and comfy, in fact a little too comfortable that we kind of blend into the friend's furniture.

And off late, as I was telling my friend these new faces are really young. In fact a little too young...in fact are they even allowed out this late??? :)

OK OK one of my resolutions this year is not to be cruel. To be a little friendlier. Smile more.

So I allowed myself to talk to one of these newbies... started with the usual casual exchange of names and what do you do's.... and the usual discussion of how we know the host... etc etc...
then after a very good 20 mins into the conversation... and the "we must definitely hang out... and I will call you the next time I attempt to cook Nasi Lemak..."
the question popped...
"YOU BLOG???"

Suddenly all my new year's resolutions flew out of the window. I recoiled... yuppers...I kinda huddled back into my shell... how do I answer that?

Yes. I blog. What's it to you?

No. I dont. (and lie...)

Yes. I Blog. But dont ask me what it is.
Cos I am not ready to share it... I dont know you that well.
But it is over the www... it is public property...
hmmm but you gotta find it first...

Sigh.

Has our Blog been turned into a Name Card...? A really personal name card that follows our every introduction? What happened to the "getting to know you" process that happens over a period of time? And is it proper eitquette to ask a person for their blogsite upon the first meeting? And what is the right way to ask so that the request can be turned down politely too?

Something like
"would you like to come up for a drink?"

"Sure I would love to."

or

"No. I have to get going. Got an early meeting tomorrow."

See? Simple and polite.

The First Time

The first time this happened, I rearranged a kick ass piece of music for a play...
the second time it happened, I decided to kick start an A cappella group...
then each time it happened, something Big started...
first pop musical, then Integrated Expressions, followed by several other musicals, then the huge sci fi musical...

Now... I feel it again.

It is that certain indescribable numbness that hits right in the pit of the stomach... and releases this sort buzz... which is kinda persistent and thumps at the top my head every night till I know what to do with it. And for now, xanax... tramal... neurofen + piriton ... are not working at all.

It has to be an Idea to get it to stop.

I need an idea!

Now I can have CHRISTMAS all year round

Towards the end of last year, many friends tried to talk me out of getting ANOTHER kitten...

but I couldnt help it...

Only cat owners, pet lovers will truly understand what I was going through. Ashley, Picollo, Percival and Picasso are all grown up now. It seemed like only yesterday that they were whizzing about the hall gettting trapped in too-small places... breaking vases, terrorizing the dog... making me sneeze... waking me up at wee hours of the morning so that they can go out of the room to see birds downstairs...

Ok... I know that didnt sound extremely positive. But I really miss the pitter patter of little paws against wooden floor panelling... the incessant meows, the hungry little accusing eyes of a kitten!!! "Why are you leaving me alone again"

So I promised my friends and my family - No More Buying kittens... ok ok too many liao...

Then as luck would have it...

Christmas came.

Yea... one cold and rainy afternoon... in Kota Damasara... by the side of the road near DO RE MI studio... Luck Found Me!

As we were walking to our car... Choo said: "awww look at the poor little thing... is it DEAD?"

That was all the persuasion I needed to walk over to this limp little pile of bones and skin and fur to check it out...

She turned to me... SLOWLY and meowed... it was the most pathetic meow I have ever heard.

It sounded more like an off pitched quack...

the little kitten quacked and kind of lifted her head to look at me... tried to get up but fell hopelessly back onto the road...

So I grabbed a pashmina from the car and wrapped up and we took her to a vet... who kept her for observation... she was down with bad flu... eye infection, mange... huge cut on nose and ears...

well... she fraily quacked all the way to the vet...

ah.. the rest is history.

She has now officially joined the rest of the family... as a super trooper who never stops reminding Percival how fat he has become, Picasso that she is no longer the youngest and Picollo - oh well.. Picollo is still the prettiest! (yah i know i play favourites!!! haha)

She is today healthy and lively. She is funny. She is kinda cute in a furless way... But above everything, she gives everyone a fair share of exercise. Well needed one too!

For a sneak peek at to something we recently did...
Jennifer has written!!!

IDEAS...

Will I ever run out of ideas?

In this industry, the ability to create new ideas is so important. Every single client says the same thing...

i want something different
something new
something creative...
but with loads of impact.

Just how many new ideas am I allowed to before i m totally all drained out??

NEXT...!

Was talking to some new interns at the office and it got me thinking...

how the hell did i end up here in this industry?
It really wasn't that long ago (hmmm in denial) when I was contemplating life's choices starting with what do I want to do...
become a vet... (mom vetoed against that)
medicine... (hate people... howla to treat them)
criminal law (mom said no future in this country)
chemist/pharmacist (die in a white lab coat?)
bio-chemist (hmmm I loved the idea of a mad scientist...
more importantly the idea of going mad n unleashed in the US)
Wasn't that difficult to convince my parents to let me do that... nice glamourous title... (although dad was hesitant then, as he just employed a bio chemist as his receptionist - but that was the 80's)...
But some things happened... didn't get to go to the US... detoured down under.
Bound for Melbourne.
Cut the long story short... switched my degree mid year to Arts... from Bio Chemistry to Sociology...
Yup... Life's only constant is change.
Back to the question... How did I end up doing what I do?
took an interest in studying society,
loved liberal arts,
enjoyed performing arts,
more importantly absolutely loved the art of manipulation - advertising.
One day I woke up and decided to try to combine the lot. Why should we work in fields that don't interest us? Why can't we be happy working and make a little money whilst we are at it...?
Hence the birth of Integrated Expressions.
Now the million dollar question...
just how happy am i doing this?

I came home to an Act of Love

"I BUTTERFLIED THEM FOR YOU..."
To me those words were almost as good as "guess what lingerie i have on, dear? "

Let me tell you what I came home to tonight.

10 prawns Butterflied and spread out across a bowlful of pasta, laced with bright yellow buttered garlic... yeah... that gives a new meaning to the word SEXY!

I thought once you fried a prawn, it opens out magically for you. I didn't know that there was this "Butterfly" process. Then again I used to think that Mac & Cheese meant a Double Cheese Big Mac!

Over the weekend my love discovered a new love. After an hour and a half of watching Julia & Julie, we realised that the one passion we shared above all the la-di-da arts and farts, is this huge penchant for life and food. No. Not as separate entities. But how it relates to each other.

Just a simple dinner like tonight's made me realised the little things in life that I often take for granted. I have always thought that the Prawns served in nice big restaurants looked big and fluffy, because they came that way. I didnt know until tonight that it was just a simple slit to their bottoms that made them open up so invitingly to diner.

Although I still dont get why it is called Butterflied. How can such a sweet and beautiful noun be such a brutal verb to another creature?

ESTHER CHONG...R.I.P

Etched in the memories of many,
your style will never grow old.
None can ever forget your flair,
the way you wear your smile...
your pouty lips and the way you speak.

I pray tonight that your soul may find
blissful peace in God's precious grace.
I wish you an eternity of rest
and that a rainbow awaits you
at your journey's end.

Rest In Peace, Esther.

When is the BEST time to fall in love?

I remember when i was a lot younger, mom said to us..."you girls are too young to be in love..."

Just over a year ago... I overheard my mom telling her sis (my auntie who was in her late 50's) that she was simply too old to be in love.

Is there a perfect age to fall in love?
And if you were to fall in love when you're at that age does that mean a happy ever after?

What about what is the perfect age of the person you should fall in love with? Should the person be older...? Or younger? And when there is a certain age gap between two people, when is it we can stop worrying about being a paedophile?

sigh... as if love is not complicated enough as it is.

Life's passing moments...in memory of Lum Jun Munn

I will remember
Your Colgate smile
Your quirky humor
Your cynical views
Your annoying laugh
Your bashful moments
Your rebellious arguments
Your kind eyes

but most of all
I will remember you
for making me realise
the joys of being a lecturer.

A Bird in the Hand...

...is worth more than two in the bushes.
Some say that is a cop-out statement. For those who are too afraid to venture out into the unknown and seek new challenges and new love. It is the daily mantra of those who are too afraid to take a chance...

But then again...what if the Bird you have is really worth more than the other two in the bushes...

THIRD BLOG

milk is nutritious
milk is yummy
shake it up
mix it about
served hot
drunk cold
gulp it down
sip it...

enjoy it whilst u can.
tomorrow it could turn sour.

SECOND BLOG

A bitter bar of chocolate from Italy. Delightfully sinful. Sinfully Delighting.
Is it too cliche to say that it reminds me of love?

The type that you want to sink your teeth into without thinking of the calories or the migraine you could get after...
ah what the hell... swallow it then pop two tramals after.

Such is life when it comes to love.

FIRST BLOG

ONE HEART BREAKS
ONE VOW RENEWED
ONE PROMISE MADE
ONE HOPE DASHED.
